Quality controls for consistently reliable produce

Every product that enters our packhouse goes through a careful series of checks, both to guarantee that it is safe and wholesome and to measure its sugar content.

When produce arrives at the packhouse, it undergoes three different checks:

  • samples are taken to check the netting of the rind, the colour and the stem, a key indicator of correct ripeness;
  • the samples are then cut open to test the firmness of the flesh with a penetrometer;
  • as a third step, the Brix (sugar content) of the produce is measured.

These checks are carried out on every incoming lot and for every variety. They are an essential step towards produce that is sound, well balanced and enjoyable to eat. When a lot is processed, each individual fruit is washed and graded by size, and its Brix is measured by a dedicated machine that uses a laser to read the sugar inside the flesh. This step matters because it lets us spot, in real time, any fruit with a Brix below our standards and set it apart from the rest.

Guaranteeing the quality of the produce we pack is a mark of authenticity, a promise of good flavour and a source of satisfaction for us and for our customers.

Since 1995, Top Melon has built its work around this approach: it makes us proud of what we do, but it never lets us lower our guard, because every day we aim to deliver genuine produce and, above all, satisfied customers.
